The Ore Tour Guide is finally finished! This guide will take through the land of Tyria in Guild Wars 2, mining and gathering valuable resources for in-game gold. Breakdowns, Waypoints, routes to each node, and other information will be provided to help you be a more Finer Miner.
In preparation for running this route, there are several things about the Ore Tour that need to be covered, including who this guide is made for, whether you should consider doing the tour, and a breakdown of each of the listen points below.
- The Waypoints (most important)
- A Watchwork Mining Pick, Infinite Mining Pick, or 2 sets of Darksteel Picks or better
- An Infinite Harvesting Sickle or 2 sets of Mithril Harvesting Sickles or better
- An Infinite Logging Axe or 1 set of Darksteel Logging Axe or better
- Harpy Feathers (Warriors & Guardians only)
- Armor set with Runes that provide Swiftness or Movement Speed bonuses (Mesmers only)
This guide, as well as the Ore Tour itself, is a passive way to play the game to make gold. Unlike farming in the Silverwastes or touring Dungeons, there is very little combat involved, save for normal mobs found within the open world and a couple of Champions – one of which can be avoided.
This tour is also one of the easiest ways of accumulating money without needing a pre-made group to clear Dungeons, knowledge of the market economy, or risking profit due to failures in map meta events such as Breach and Vinewrath of the Silverwastes. As of this writing, a full tour with a Watchwork Mining Pick can bring anywhere between 10-12 gold or 7-9 gold without a Watchwork Mining Pick after Trading Post fees and Waypoint costs.
The time in which one can make money is dictated by your own speed, unhindered by the performance of others. Once you are familiar with the routes, an average tour can take up to 1 hour. If you include all of the gathering nodes and check for random nodes that may appear, expect the tour to extend up to 1 hour and 30 minutes (give or take 5-10 minutes).
The Ore Tour is for anyone, but primarily for individuals that choose to farm for gold. If you have a pre-made group that is familiar with Dungeons, it is preferred to do that instead of mining. During down times when there are not enough or none of your group/contacts are online, the Ore Tour can act as filler, to ensure you are making gold during your time in-game.
Unlocking all of the Waypoints for the Ore Tour is the most significant factor to ensure you can hop from node-to-node, gather the resources, sell them on the Trading Post, and collect your gold. It is best and recommended to use a character with full or the most World Completion in order to familiarize yourself with the route and trails.
Depending on the amount of spare time you have and choose to use on the Ore Tour, decide for yourself how many characters will be designated for this task. By doing so, you can use less time unlocking Waypoints on characters that will be unable to be taken advantage of for extra tours due to limited available time.
The Mining Picks
The preferred mining pick of choice is the Watchwork Mining Pick. This mining pick allows you to obtain Watchwork Sprockets while mining, The average amount of Sprockets gained will vary from tour-to-tour, ranging between 90-120 Sprockets due to RNG (random number generation). By investing in the Watchwork Mining Pick, expect to yield an additional 3+ gold in profit as of this writing.
Alternatively, you can use any Infinite Mining Pick of your choice, or if you currently do not have an infinite pick or do not want to make an investment towards one, you can also use regular mining picks. When using regular picks, bring 2 sets of Darksteel mining picks for keeping costs down of future replenishment. Our main focus will be Iron and Platinum nodes, so don’t feel back about passing up any Mithril nodes along the way.
The Harvesting Sickles
This Ore Tour also involves Strawberry, Grape, and Spinach, so the importance of carrying a set of Harvesting Sickles to forage these nodes can yield some extra coin and also cover Waypoint costs. Harvesting is ENTIRELY OPTIONAL in the tour, as doing these nodes can extend the tour an additional 20-30 minutes depending on your speed.
When it comes to using an Infinite Harvesting Sickle, there is a clear difference in speed when using these tools. The quickest ones available in the Gem Store are the Consortium and Fused Molten Harvesting Sickle. Harvesting speed aside, whichever Infinite harvesting tool you decide to choose, select the one that is most appealing to you!
If you do decide to do the foraging nodes, you can opt to invest in an Infinite Harvesting sickle or use regular harvesting sickles. If using regular sickles, purchase Mithril harvesting sickles to ensure you can harvest high level Herbs that can yield highly priced ingredients, such as Chili Peppers from Verdant Herbs in the Ascalon territories.
The Logging Axes
Logging for woods is on the low-end of the tour. You log what nodes that are on the route to a rich ore node and never going out of you way for them. Due to this, having an Infinite Logging Axe is optional. If you choose to save your gold, gems, or money, you can bring a set of Darksteel logging axes instead since the highest tier wood that will be worth logging while on the tour is Hard Wood (chuckle).
Useful Items and Gear for Certain Classes
There is one Rich Platinum node on the tour in Sparkfly Fen that is guarded by a Champion Risen Spider Queen. She can be a hassle to fight until you learn her patterns and slows down the tour. To bypass this fight, you can use a teleport or stealth utility skill from the entrance to the rich node to prevent engaging her.
Now, for classes such as Warrior and Guardian that do not have any stealth or teleports, Harpy Feathers used to sneak by the Risen Spider Queen to save some time and possibly grief. Harpy Feathers can be obtained after an event chain in the Arca Lake region of Harathi Hinterlands. If you have a Guardian and/or Warrior that are not designated to be a farming character, then you can skip buying these Feathers for them.
The last recommendation is a second set of armor with a complete set of Superior Runes that provides Swiftness, extends Swiftness duration, or provides a flat Movement Speed bonus to make getting around easier if you use a Mesmer for the tour. Below is a list of the least costly and useful set for each type of speed bonus.
- Swiftness & Swiftness Duration: Superior Rune of the Centaur
- Swiftness Duration & Movement Speed: Superior Rune of Speed
THE ORE TOUR
Now that all of the relevant information regarding prep has been gone over, let’s go over the Waypoints, routes, and a couple of guides for some points that may confuse newcomers in areas that might have never been visited, or discovered long ago and forgotten because you never had a reason to return. Pickaxes, ready!
No, I’m not referring to the precursor. In the following images that display the route towards Rich Ore and Harvesting nodes, there are a couple of things to keep in mind concerning some of the of icons, as well as node replenishment.
- Blue colored node icons represent Rich Ore nodes that are guaranteed to be there.
- Red colored node icons represent random Rich Ore nodes that may appear in the area.
- Kessex Hills Rich Ore nodes have 2 Rich Iron and 1 Rich Silver that alternate locations.
- Harvesting node areas are represented by an icon reflecting the specified ingredient.
- Rich Ore nodes replenish 23-24 hours after being depleted for a specific character.
- Nodes are character bound. The more characters you have, the more you can tour.

TIPS & TRICKS
Gathering Boosters & Surveying Banners
When using these items to increase the amount of resources gathered, if going West to East, use these boosts after the Rich Ore node located underground in Kessex Hills at Cereboth Waypoint. The Rich Ore node is guarded by a Champion Destroyer Harpy that can slow down the tour and waste time on your boosts. If going East to West, use these boosts once you reach the set of nodes.
Join a Guild with the Gathering Bonus
Unlike the Gathering Boost consumable, the Gathering Bonus buff provided by guilds increases the chances to find rare materials when mining, logging, and harvesting. These rare materials are Gemstones, Hidden Stashes, and Dandelions. While it may not sound like much, these Pebbles, Lumps, and Crystals add up into extra profit.
Midway Pit Stop
Regardless of which direction you run the tour, once you reach Old Sledge Site Waypoint in Mount Maelstrom, it is recommended to sell all the “Junk” items in your inventory to clear up bag space. If you are using regular gathering tools, then use this opportunity to purchase more picks, axes, and sickles so you don’t run out for the rest of the tour.
Off the Beaten Path
Sometimes when you run towards your destination, you will come across nodes that are tempting to break away from the trail to gather. There is a system that my friends and I follow which is: You never go off the beaten path unless there are three or more nodes within a completely zoomed in and expanded mini-map. Below is an image of what I am referring to.
Avoiding the Spider’s Trap
Above in the Useful Items and Gear for Certain Classes section, I mentioned a Rich Platinum node in Sparkfly Fen that is guarded by a Champion Risen Spider Queen. For Warriors and Guardians, make sure you have some Harpy Feathers so you can stealth past her to reach the node uncontested. For other classes, you can use a Stealth or Teleport utility skills instead. Below is a list of recommended utility skills that can be used to bypass this encounter and save time.
- Engineer – Toss Elixir S
- Mesmer – Mass Invisibility
- Ranger – Juvenile Siamoth Pet > Forage a Tuft of Hair or Feathers
- Thief – Blinding Powder, Shadow Refuge
- Elementalist – Lightning Flash
- Mesmer – Blink
- Necromancer – Summon Flesh Wurm > Necrotic Traversal
- Thief – Shadowstep
When using a teleport, station yourself at the entrance way and ground-target as far into the room and as close to the Rich Platinum node to avoid the Champion Risen Spider Queen’s aggro or spawning her. Even if the room appears clear, Stealth or Teleport to the node anyways to be safe.
Blood and Ore of Bloodtide
In the Dredge tunnel at Mournful Waypoint of Bloodtide Coast, the twist and turns of the tunnels can throw off the unfamiliar when trying to find the Rich Platinum node in the top level. Follow the guide below to avoid being lost. A Champion Ooze also spawns near the Rich node which can be avoided by waiting until it patrols away from the area.
Away from the Cob Webs
For the guaranteed Iron Ore at Wyrmblood Waypoint in Dredgehaunt Cliffs, you can hop on to of a rock to mine the Rich Ore while avoiding combat. Doing this saves some time to allow you to nab the Ore and head onto the next Waypoint.
Through the Cracks
Sometimes a random Rich Platinum will spawn in the area just south near the Fire Shaman World Boss at Gladefall Waypoint in Iron Marches. To ensure you are not taking the long way around, stay on course until you come across a large tree on the left side of the hills near the rock formation. The large gap in the spikes is where you will want to jump through to get into the camp area to reach the Rich Platinum node.
All Along the Watchtower
At Breaktooth’s Waypoint in Fireheart Rise, there are 2 Puzzle chests around the tower where the Rich Platinum ore is located. One is located at the base and the other is underneath a tent at a small camp located East at the top of the hill before the jump to the tower. These are completely optional and can be passed up without feeling guilty as the drops are not so rewarding.
Reaching the Shiny!
In the cave of Lornar’s Pass at Icedevil’s Waypoint, traversing through the mining rails and stairways can be slightly confusing at first. Below is a guide to walk you through past the Skritt and straight to the shiney!
Strawberry Fields Forever
In the town of Nolan at Diessa Plateau, making your way through the rusted and moss-covered giant cogs can be tricky at first to reach the hidden strawberry patch. Follow the guide below so this does not turn into a time sink during the tour.
Swan Dive into Ore
Once you reach the cliff inside the cave, instead of making your way down by using the cliffs laid out along the walls that are a part of the Jumping Puzzle, leap off into the water down below to reach the Rich Iron node faster.
