Bloody good timing for Alien: Isolation to come out in October, let alone on October 7th! To make matters even more grim, The Evil Within releases one week later on October 14th! I can’t think of a better way to kick off the month of Halloween than by shutting off all the lights, cracking open every closet door, and turning up the sound while playing submerged in utter darkness! It’s been far too long since we have had proper survivor-horror games that didn’t trade in the horror and survival for action (I’m looking at you Resident Evil). There goes my wallet and my bowels. Preparing to be scared sh*tless.
First off, Alien: Isolation is the Alien game fans and fans of the horror genre have been craving for! We are finally lumped in a ship, with twisting, dark corridors that leave us guessing where our hunter will spree out from next. No place is safe and you will never have a situation (at least, I hope not) where you come across a stockade of ammunition and ballistics to destroy half of the Caribbean Islands. No, sir. Alien: Isolation aims to please and achieve the squeamish little girl in all of us with feelings of helplessness and, well, isolation.
However, The Evil Within (aka Psycho Break over in Japan) will have more gunplay finesse involved ala Resident Evil 4. Seeing how the creator of the Resident Evil franchise, Shinji Mikami, is leading the charge, my hopes and expectations are high. I know, I know, it’s never good to set expectations high otherwise you might be disappointed. Well too late and too bad. I’m already amped up and nerdgasmed enough times to recharge a wireless controller!
I’m sure everyone out there is stoked and come October, you can count on Twitch being filled to the brim like an overactive child’s trick-or-treat bag with broadcasters streaming their share of horror games and jump-scare thrills. I know what I’ll be watching everyday for the next month, look forward to being uneasy and unsafe again! Aliens and the Evil Within us all – GET HYPED!
